Mission Lyoness
A Journey into the Depths of the English Channel
Lyoness is in danger! In this city beneath the sea, hidden deep under the surface of the English Channel, French and English citizens have lived together in harmony for centuries. But now, a dispute between the two heads of state—Queen Eleonore of England and Prince Philibert of France—threatens to disrupt the peace. Why? Because they’re arguing over which country makes the better music!
But help is on the way: children dive into the underwater world together with the thundering theorbo arpeggios, rushing recorder glissandi, and bubbling viola da gamba pizzicatos of Ensemble Astrum. The quarrelling royals are to be led to a solution through the power of music, made together by the ensemble and its young audience. Music brings peace to the world!
An Interactive Children’s Concert
Mission Lyoness is designed for primary school children. In a playful way, it introduces them to the rich musical traditions of France and England while presenting historical instruments such as the viola da gamba and theorbo. The concert is interactive, while also experiencing moments of silence and attentive listening.
A peace song sung together at the end shows how music can positively influence how we live together. Since the project requires no elaborate props, it is flexible in its setup—suitable for venues ranging from small classrooms to large assembly halls.
