Le choix du poète. Et Eurydice?
“He looks back, out of love—and at once, she slips away.”
(Ovid, Metamorphoses, Orpheus and Eurydice)
In its new program, Ensemble Astrum explores the myth of Orpheus. Inspired by a film scene from Portrait of a Lady on Fire, a pocket-sized music theatre production was created in collaboration with Viennese director Enia Cosic and Dutch soprano Noëlle Drost: Le choix du poète. Et Eurydice? — The poet’s choice. Or is it Eurydice’s choice for independence?
In three acts, themes such as transience, independence, grief, feminism, and poetic stereotypes take center stage in a reinterpretation of this timeless legend. Featuring music by C. Monteverdi, B. Strozzi, G. P. Telemann and C. H. Graun Astrum embarks on a search for meaning between the lines.
